Historical Note
Planning for a conference hotel at Oregon State University began in the
mid-1990s; a request for proposals was issued in early 1997. In June 1998,
the Oregon State Board of Higher Education approved lease of 3.67 acres of
campus property near the LaSells Stewart Conference Center and OSU
athletic facilities to a development corporation for construction of a $10
million hotel. Ultimately, another development company began construction
in the summer of 2002 and the Hilton Garden Inn opened in the fall of
2003.
