Summary:

Harvey was a pacifist and an actress who
lived at Civilian Public Service Camp 56, at Waldport, Oregon during World War
II. This collection includes original recordings and a transcript of an oral
history interview about Harvey's life and experiences in CPS, as well
supporting materials including photographs and an MA thesis written by the
interviewer.

Biographical Note
Manche Langly Harvey was born in Portland, Oregon, on February 19,
1918. She lived in the Portland area until her young adult years, when she
became a pacifist, and eventually joined the Fine Arts Civilian Public Service
Camp at Waldport, Oregon in 1943. At Waldport, Manche became involved with the
theater and printing. After the war she and her husband Bob Harvey moved to San
Francisco, where Manche worked in the emerging theater scene with the
Interplayers and the Playhouse. Today Manche lives in the San Francisco
area.
Content Description
This collection includes master copies and duplicates of original
cassette oral history recordings. The collection also includes transcriptions,
correspondence, photographs, and historical materials relating to Manche
Langley Harvey.
Arrangement
This collection is arranged in a single series with: Box 1 including
oral history recordings; and Box 2 including oral history transcriptions and
supporting materials.
