Historical Note
The Personnel Coordinating Committee provided oversight for campus-wide
academic guidance, coordinated the various student personnel departments
of the institution, and assisted in the promotion of an efficient student
personnel service in each school or division. The Committee consisted of
staff and faculty, including the Personnel Coordinator. Dallas W. Norton
served as Personnel Coordinator and Assistant Registrar from 1947 until
1962. Student personnel staff and programs provided opportunities and
services to encourage educational, vocational, social, and personal
development of all students.
Content Description
The Personnel Coordinating Committee Records consist of minutes and
records documenting this committee's oversight of academic guidance and
other student personnel activities at Oregon State College. The bulk of
the materials pertain to the development of counseling and guidance
services at Oregon State through the Counseling and Testing Center.
Series I consists of minutes of the Personnel Coordinating Committee
and the larger Personnel Council as well as agendas and meeting
announcements.
Series II includes reports, correspondence, meeting agendas, and
related documentation. The reports include a summary report of midterm
grade warnings; a 1954 report on the need for clinical and personal
counseling services at Oregon State College; and a survey of student
counseling services at other colleges and universities. A report for
winter term 1953/1954 of grade distributions by department and school and
academic deficiencies includes lists of students on academic probation or
suspension. Access to this report is restricted and requires approval of
the University Archivist.
