Historical Note
Student Involvement seeks to "enhance student learning and student
succes through co-curricular involvement" and provides support services to
organizations funded by student fee funds. Among the services offered are
assistance with event planning, space for meetings, publicity, and leadership
development.
The Student Activities Center was housed in the Memorial Union in the
early 1970s, moved to the new Memorial Union East in the late 1970s, and became
known as Student Involvement in the late 1990s.
Content Description
The Student Involvement Records consist of materials generated and
assembled by the unit and include annual reports, brochures, budgetary records,
buttons, correspondence, flyers, handbooks, meeting minutes, newsletters,
newspaper clippings, notes, photographs, publications, student group rosters,
and a sound recording. Outreach programs documented include Eager Beaver,
Odyssey, and Passport to Student Involvement. In addition to reflecting the
administration of Student Involvement, these files document interactions among
Student Involvement staff, student organizations, and cultural centers; event
planning; office space remodels; involvement in coursework and leadership
training office; policies and procedures; and budget preparation.
The Associated Students of OSU (ASOSU) materials pertain to ASOSU
retreats, student body elections, the Oregon Student Association, and
incidental student fee budgets.
The photographs depict a staff retreat, the Student Involvement office
area after a remodel in 2003, OSU cultural centers and various events sponsored
by student organizations. The sound recording is a reel-to-reel tape of a 1975
public hearing on the freshman housing requirement.
