Administrative Information

Acquisition Information

Donated by Expo '74 World's Fair Corporation, 1975.

Processing Note

In 1975, Eastern Washington State Historical Society agreed to keep all records and memorabilia of the 1974 World's Fair except those specifically held by Eastern Washington State College (now Eastern Washington University) and Northwest Regional Foundation. Processing of this collection began that same year with the aid of a grant funded by CETA. However, because EWSHS lacked appropriate space, processing was begun at the John Deere warehouse, temporarily moved to another warehouse, and was finally granted use of the U.S. Pavilion at the fairgrounds.

Again due to lack of space, EWSHS, for a number of years, was forced to rely on the generosity of other institutions to store the Expo '74 collection. For two years, Washington Trust Bank held Expo's records in their basement. These boxes were removed in 1978 as Washington Trust agreed to hold the records for only one year's time and needed the additional space to expand its facilities. For a number of years the boxes took up residence at Eastern Washington University, and finally, from 1980 to 1982, Gonzaga University stored these records. In 1982, the collection was returned to EWSHS to be stored on-site in the Discovery Room.

Processed to the file folder level.
