Historical Note

The American Chemical Society, founded in 1876, is the largest international association of chemists. Its principal publication is The Journal of the American Chemical Society. The society is composed of a number of local sections, one of which, the Northern Intermountain (formerly Idaho-Washington), was established in 1912 under the leadership of Dr. George Olson of the Washington Agricultural Experiment Station. There were 26 charter members. Dr. Elton Fulmer was elected chairman in 1913.

Content Description

The records of the ACS's Northern Intermountain Section contain the minutes and correspondence of the organization from 1909 to 1924.

Arrangement

The records of the ACS's Northern Intermountain Section are divided into three series. The folders within each series are arranged chronologically. Series One, Minutes, consists of the records of annual meetings from 1913 to 1924. Membership lists are included for 1913, 1918, 1919, 1923 and 1924. Series Two, Correspondence, comprises the majority of the material in the collection and includes the period 1909 to 1925, except 1914-1915. A final folder, Publications, constitutes the third series and includes society directories and bulletins.
