Overview of the Collection
Historical NoteNuclear research and education began at OSU soon after World War II. In the 1950s, the first classes in nuclear physics and radiochemistry were taught, and in 1955 a cyclotron was constructed. A graduate program in nuclear engineering was established in 1959. In the early 1960s, a committee recommended that a research lab be established to house nuclear and radiation facilities. Funding was secured in the fall of 1962, and construction began in early 1964. The labs were occupied in August 1964 and the research reactor was completed in January 1967. C.H. Wang was the center's first director. Content DescriptionSeries one consists of an annual report for 1969/70 for the Radiation Center and the Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering and annual reports for the Radiation Center and TRIGA Reactor for 1977/78 through 1999/2000 that were required to be submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Oregon Dept. of Energy. Proceedings are from a July 1975 conference in Portland on "Magnitude and Deployment Schedule of Energy Resources." Use of the Collection
