Historical NoteReturn to Top
President Clemen created the Office of Public Relations in 1935 to coordinate college publicity and student recruiting activities. He appointed Victor Shawe as the first Director of Public Relations. The current Whitman College Communications Office, part of the Development and College Relations group, is responsible for promoting Whitman College as well as communicating the goals and accomplishments of the college people and departments. The Communications Office publishes Whitman Magazine and The Fountain campus newsletter and manages the college Web site, media relations, and other communications services.
