Historical Note

Azalea House, a women's cooperative residence, opened in the Fall of 1953. The idea for the house was formulated in 1945 by the Oregon Home Economics Extension Council, which recognized the post-war need for low-cost housing at OSC. Fundraising began in 1946, and the house was built in 1953. Total cost of the project was $121,450. It was designed to house 58 women.

Content Description

Report excerpts, from 1953, include narrative on the construction and furnishing of the house, furnishings inventory (Sept. 1953), and statements from county extension publications. Minutes date from 1953-54 and 1956. The scrapbook was compiled by the house's Class of 1970 and includes a history, list of contributions, the House Pledge, and House Songs. Gift and contributions summary lists individual donors and monies raised by county organizations.
