Overview of the Collection
Historical NoteThe Motor Transportation Division was established as a general service organization within the Executive Department on January 1, 1961. It provided automotive equipment services, shop services, communications services, and warehousing services to City departments. The Motor Transportation Division's primary responsibilities were purchasing, maintaining, and utilizing the City's fleet of cars and trucks; it was also responsible for repair on other City vehicles and equipment. The Communications Section installed and maintained Fire and Police Department communication systems. The Division existed until 1980, when it was absorbed by the Department of Administrative Services. Content DescriptionReports exist for the years 1965-1969 and include narrative and statistics on the Division’s activities, finances, and equipment. Also included in each report is a "directory of services" explaining the four primary services of the Division -- Automotive Equipment, Shop, Communications, and Warehousing -- as well as Service Center locations, services available at each location, personnel information, and an organization chart for the Division.
