Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Weyerhaeuser Company, founded in 1900 as the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company, is one of the largest forest product companies in the world. Weyerhaueser had timber and logging operations in Klamath County until the mid-1990s.

Timber cruising is a process for measuring forest stands to determine number and species of trees, average tree size and volume, and timber quality.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Klamath County Timber Cruising Records consist of field notes made by timber cruisers for the Weyerhaeuser Company in southwestern Klamath County. The records cover townships 37S through 41S and ranges 6E through 10E. The notes include the numbers and types of trees on the measured tract (ponderosa pine and other species); condition of the trees; areas logged; and hand-drawn maps depicting lake boundaries, rocks, burned areas, and other landscape features. Cruisers' names are given on the notes.

Notes for several cruises in northern California (T48N R3W, Mt. Diablo Meridian) are also included.
