Overview of the Collection
Historical NoteThe Board of Regents is the central governing board for the university. Members are appointed by the Governor of the State of Washington. The Enabling Act that established the institution implies certain administrative duties for the Regents. In early years of the University, Regents sometimes had a direct role in both management and operation. At other times, the Regents have served more as an oversight and policy board. The University President is the Secretary of the Board, and, for many matters, is the legal delegate of the Board. Content DescriptionMinutes of the Washington State University Board of Regents follow normal minute format. The earliest minutes are from 1891. Use of the CollectionAdministrative Information
Arrangement :
The records at the Libraries consist of two chronologically-ordered series. One is the minute books. A shorter second series consist of the supporting documents, chiefly from 1975-79. This second series derives from several sources, much of it apparently from the offices of the Associated Students of Washington State University. This series was added to the Regents records without regard to provenance.
Acquisition Information :
Minutes books of the Board of Regents were transferred to the University Libraries in Sept. 2003 (accession UA2003- 14). With receipt of the minute books, duplicate unbound minutes, 1960-1998, heretofore serving as the principal element of Archives 257, were discarded.
