Summary:
Two related groups of snapshots by
unknown photographers in Alaska ca. 1900-1905. The photographs include Alaskan
scenes taken when Americans were into the region to make what they could of the
last great gold strike of the 19th century. The first series consists of 12
mounted views with pencil captions and include images of a Native American
woman and child selling curios, views of glaciers and mountain scenery. The
second set of 20 travel photographs was taken aboard a 50-ton gasoline launch,
the Valdez, and contains views of the "Copper Bullion" mine, Cape Spenser, and
glaciers.

Arrangement :
The first series consists of 12 mounted views with pencil captions and
include images of native children selling curios, views of glaciers and
mountain scenery. The second set of 20 travel photographs were taken during a
trip aboard a 50-ton gasoline launch, the Valdez, and contain views of the
"Copper Bullion" mine, Cape Spenser.
Acquisition Information :
