Overview of the Collection
Biographical NoteFounded in 1920 by Emily Hard, a Spokane school teacher, the Greenacres Woman’s Club was a social organization that sought “to stimulate intellectual, moral, and civic development and to promote good fellowship.” At the first meeting at Hard’s home on December 3, 1920, thirty-six women signed the club’s first constitution and by-laws. The Greenacres Woman’s Club was a member of the Washington State Federation of Women’s Clubs from 1924-1941. The motto of the club, “The Noblest Motive is the Public Good,” was evidenced by the club’s support of a variety of community organizations, such as the school library and kitchen, the Camp Fire Group, and the veterans at the VA Hospital. Content DescriptionThis collection consists of club records and general correspondence from 1920-1941. Specifically, it includes minutes from 1932-1941, copies of the club’s constitution and by-laws, club membership lists, and letters and cards between members and friends. Use of the Collection
