Overview of the Collection
Historical NoteA Visual Instruction Department was created around 1932 as a unit of the Oregon State System of Higher Education's General Extension Division, and was located on the Oregon State College campus in Corvallis. The department made slides and films available to schools, community clubs, churches, and other organizations for educational purposes. U.S. Burt was the first department head. Content DescriptionThe Audiovisual Education Scrapbook consists of clippings from newspapers throughout Oregon pertaining to new motion picture films acquired by the Visual Instruction Department; showings of films at Oregon State College and elsewhere throughout the state; and news about the department and its director, U.S. Burt. The scrapbook includes a brochure (synopsis sheet) for Universal Newspaper Newsreels that lists Garden Greens Deck New Hats about Oregon State College coeds decorating hats with "lettuce and stuff from the kitchen garden." The scrapbook was transferred from Audiovisual Education in 1965.
