Historical Note
The Washington State University Alumni Association, established in 1898, oversees alumni Scholarship and Development Fund donations, plans and hosts reunions and homecoming activities, produces newsletters and bulletins, and arranges other alumni activities. An important responsibility of the association is that of funding and awarding scholarships. Included among these scholarships are the Ernest O. Holland Memorial Fund and the E.O. Holland Scholarship and Research Fund which were founded upon Dr. Holland's death in 1950. These funds and many of the other alumni donations add to the general scholarship fund through the Alumni Merit Scholarship Award or the Alumni Opportunity Awards.

Arrangement :
The records of the Alumni Association are arranged in four series: General Correspondence; Awards and Grants; Reunions and Homecomings; and Photographs. The first series, General Correspondence, contains correspondence concerning public relations, donations, the Alumni corporation's bylaws and charter, bulletins, newspaper clippings, and photographs. This series is arranged alphabetically by topic and dates from 1960 to 1973. The second series, Awards and Grants, contains correspondence concerning the Alumni Opportunity Award, travel grants, grants-in-aid, E.O. Holland Awards, and scholarship acceptances. This series is arranged alphabetically by topic and dates from 1959 to 1974.
The third series, Reunions and Homecomings, contains correspondence concerning alumni events, attendance, and seating arrangements for reunions and homecomings, photographs, bulletins, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and other papers. This series, which dates from 1953 to 1975, is arranged in five subseries. The first subseries concerns reunions and is arranged chronologically by the reunion class year. Folders which were originally labeled as containing both reunion and homecoming material have been placed in the Reunion subseries. The second subseries concerns Golden Grads and is arranged chronologically by class year. The third subseries, Homecomings, is also arranged chronologically, but by the year the event was held. The fourth subseries contains Fifth Quarter Party correspondence and has been arranged chronologically by the class year. Football reunions have been arranged chronologically by team year.
With noted exceptions, the original order has been maintained in these three series. The fourth series, Photographs, has been arranged alphabetically by topic.
