Historical NoteThe Seattle Transportation Commission operated the public transit system from 1939 to 1951; the Seattle Transit Commission operated the bus system from 1951 until 1971, when it was transferred to Metro. The public transportation system was called the Seattle Transit System during these years. Content DescriptionThe annual reports of the Seattle Transit System date from 1940 to 1971. The early reports contain information on changes in public transportation, such as taking out rail cars and replacing them with trolleys or buses. The reports contain statistics on accidents, passengers and financial information as well as information on fare structure, lines, and other issues. The reports during the 1940s are engineering reports from outside companies. In the 1950s, the reports are almost entirely statistical. In the 1960s, the reports contain brief narratives but are primarily statistical. Use of the Collection
